Roe v. Wade
The Roe v. Wade case in 1973 was a landmark Supreme Court ruling that held that the right to privacy within the scope of the Fourteenth Amendment included a woman’s qualified right to terminate a pregnancy. This right was partially reaffirmed in 1992 in another Supreme Court case, Planned Parenthood v. Casey.
Both these decisions were overruled in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. In a decision written by Justice Alito, the court held that the constitution does not confer a right to abortion, and gives individual states the full power to regulate any aspect of abortion not protected by federal law.
